1. The Six-Stage EC Process
Category B1 projects with full EIA studies typically budget 10-14 months realistically. Treat anything faster as a pleasant surprise.

2. Mandatory Distance Norms
Before filing, the site must be verified against four strict distance norms. Failure here means rejection regardless of EMP quality:

From protected areas (sanctuary, national park).
> 25km
From any defense installation.
3. The Public Hearing Reality
- Consultant Mandate: The EIA report must be prepared by a QCI/NABET-accredited consultant.
- Local Concerns: Hearings typically center on odor, effluent discharge, water table impact, and traffic/noise.
- Proactive EMP: A well-prepared Environmental Management Plan (EMP) that includes real design parameters for the ZLD system—not placeholders—is required to mitigate community friction.
